The local music scene
The CT music scene is large but close knit at the same time.
[I am speaking from experience so don’t take offense if I miss or leave out some details. This is an opinion piece! ]
During the 2020s there were three big scenes booming in CT. The punk/indie scene, the folk/americana scene, and the RnB/Hip-hop scene. Since this time, I have been around many more scenes in the area, including the Rock scene, Funk scene, DJ/EDM scene and more.
I find each scene comes with its unique quirks.

The punk/indie scene can come with some chaotic fun. Mosh pits get crazy. I got bruised and battered in a few. People lost teeth. Others broken noses. Many basement shows and sweaty people. College kids tend to rule this genre. Exciting and fun times. Band who know how to create an experience.
The RnB/hip-hop scene I have spent the most time playing in. It has been extremely thought provoking lyrics, fun crowds, and fun digital camera mini films. With the melodic notes of calm, and harmonies to put you in a trance, bands can be paired with fashion events, (I love thrifting and music).
The Folk/Americana scene has been very natural, quiet, and strongly associated with wine nights lol. Songwriters rounds are the bread and butter of this crowd. Nature and music is a must.
[of course this is a generalization!!]

But one commonality all these scenes shared was… their incredible use of community. From fundraisers for friends recoveries, to cat adoption centers, the people of the CT music scene are very dedicated to using music to see change. Everyone I’ve met has been extremely talented, thoughtful, and overall good people. As these 3 scenes were doing well, others followed suit. Some very memorable moments from 2020-2025 were created.
We are in an interesting spot between the NYC and Boston music scenes. We typically associate with people in these cities, but allow CT as a middle ground. Filled with new upcoming festivals like Seeing Sounds, Soundside, Emerging Echoes, and Farmington Acoustics, this is definitely a small but creative hub for musicians.
I hope to keep reporting on the news of the local music scene. AND this will not be a drama blog or page meant to roast or down play certain scenes. That is not what music is about. Music is about creation and acceptance. Music is subjective, but meant to be respected.
