About Me
Hi, I’m Laurel Joy.
I’m a musician, songwriter, and teacher based in CT & NYC.
I have been playing piano for 14 years, with my roots in jazz, blues, rock, and styles of pop. I have been playing gigs and solo piano events for 6+ years. I also have experience in songwriting, teaching beginners of all ages, and home recording/production.
I began my journey at a young age, with a deep fascination for piano and creation. It started with a passion and a dream, which lead me to play for and with many people, including jazz combos, jazz bands, churches, girl bands, hip-hop artists, Long Wharf Theatre, and rock bands. I enjoy creating an atmosphere for any environment, whether it is elegant piano for a holiday party or upbeat sounds for a busy cafe.
Songwriting is a huge part of my work as an artist, but also as a teacher. I always encourage my students to practice writing and listening. Music is not just something we play off a piece of paper, it is a form of self-expression, and a chance to create something beautiful. This teaching style sets me apart from other traditional lessons as I want people to experience the joy of creating and learning by ear, as well as playing.
I am currently studying music therapy at SCSU while teaching beginner to intermediate pianists and performing live events. I also collaborate with solo artists as a pianist, songwriting, or for live gigs.
